1956 - Elvis Presley made his first acting performance in the premiere of the movie Love Me Tender.
1965 - The Rolling Stones made their debut on NBC-TV's Hullabaloo television show. The band performed "Get Off My Cloud."
1969 - Janis Joplin was arrested after a concert in Tampa, Florida. The singer was brough up on charges of using "vulgar and indecent language.” The charges were later dropped.
1971 - Grand Funk Railroad released their sixth album, E Pluribus Funk.
1988 - Metallica's American tour for And Justice For All kicked off in Toledo, Ohio, with Queensryche acting as the supporting band.
1990 - David Bowie took a turn for Broadway, starring in the title role in The Elephant Man.
1992 - Ozzy Osbourne played what he said would be his final concert, in Costa Mesa, California. However, he did return to the live circuit.
2006 - U2 emerged victorious from a court battle over memororabilia allegedly stolen from frontman Bono. The items in question, a Stetson hat, some metal earrings, a green sweat shirt and a pair of black pants, were found in the possession of a former stylist.
