1956 - Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash hit the studio together as the Million Dollar Quartet. Despite the all-star lineup, the session would not be released for 25 years.
1976 - Deep Purple's Tommy Bolin died from a drug overdose at the age of 25.
1980 - Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones announced that they would not continue as a band following the death of drummer John "Bonzo" Bonham.
1987 - Metallica released Cliff 'Em All, a video collection of bootleg and unprofessional recordings that was shot during 1982-1986 while bassist Cliff Burton was in the band.
1988 - Roy Orbison performed his final show in Akron, OH. He died two days later.
1989 - The U.S. Supreme Court maintained that Prince did not steal the song, "U Got The Look" from his half-sister. Lorna Nelson claimed the song's lyrics were very similar to one of her own songs.
1991 - Van Halen performed a free show in Dallas, Texas. Sammy Hagar promised to play the gig because he lost his voice during a concert there 3 1/2 years earlier.
2001 - Gene Simmons released his book Kiss and Make-Up.
