1963 - Eric Clapton was invited to join the Yardbirds as the replacement for Anthony "Top" Topham.

1969 - Crosby, Stills & Nash released the song "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes."

1970 - Janis Joplin was discovered dead from a heroin overdose at the age of 27. The singer had just finished work on her second solo album Pearl.

1974 - Thin Lizzy played with Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson in the lineup for the first time.

1974 - John Lennon released the album Walls And Bridges.

1980 - Carly Simon collapsed during a gig in Pittsburgh from nervous exhaustion, prompting the cancellation of the rest of the tour.

1982 - The band Squeeze split up.

1994 - Dream Theater released their album Awake.

1996 - Van Halen announced that former Extreme singer Gary Cherone would be the next singer of the band, following the departure of Sammy Hagar.

1997 - Farm Aid '97 raised over $1 million for American farmers.
