1969 - Jimi Hendrix earned the largest paycheck any act had received up to that time, for one set at the Newport Jazz Festival. The guitar legend collected $125,000 for the show.
1973 - American Bandstand celebrated its 20th anniversary with a 90-minute TV special that featured Little Richard, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Cheech and Chong and Three Dog Night.
1977 - Steve Winwood released his first solo album.
